KBH Japan Launches Akita’s First International School in Semboku City
Knightsbridge House Japan (KBH Japan) is proud to announce the launch of Akita Prefecture’s first international school in Semboku City—a transformative initiative that blends world-class education with community revitalisation. This groundbreaking project is designed to offer affordable, high-quality international education while driving local economic and cultural growth.
A Vision Uniting Global Excellence and Local Growth
On 14 February 2025, at a distinguished ceremony held in the Tazawako Building of Semboku City Hall, Semboku City Mayor Tomoaki Taguchi and KBH Japan founder Mr John Fearon signed an agreement to open the school by September 2025.
Semboku City Mayor Tomoaki Taguchi stated, “This initiative beautifully marries global educational excellence with our rich local heritage. It offers our children an unparalleled opportunity to learn and grow, while also energising our community and local economy.”
John Fearon added,“We are honoured to partner withSemboku City on this transformative project. Our mission is to nurture innovative global citizens who thrive both locally and internationally. This school is a testament to our commitment to quality education and community development.”
This innovative partnership aims to:
Integrate Global & Local: Combine internationally recognised educational practices with local cultural experiences—such as theatre education, outdoor activities at Lake Tazawa, skiing, hiking, and visits to historical samurai residences.
Revitalise the Local Economy: Engage local businesses and employ regional residents, ensuring that the project contributes directly to community growth.
Build for the Future: Launch operations at the soon-to-be-closed Shiraiwa Elementary School in Kakunodate Town, serving approximately 40 junior high to high school students, and transition to a purpose-built campus with dormitory facilities along Lake Tazawa—expanding capacity to around 600 students by 2028.
